Clutter to Clear from Your Life

Posted on: 16 April 2019

Many people have issues with hanging onto objects that they don't need. Sometimes, they might do this because the items have sentimental value, even if they are of no real use. Other times, they might do this because they have a serious psychological condition known as hoarding, which compels them to keep items, sometimes even items as worthless as trash. Whatever the case may be, clutter is not conducive to a healthy, happy life. Therefore, you should identify the type of clutter that you have and then make efforts to remove it from your life.

Trash

For some people, it can be hard to tell the difference between trash and things that are worth keeping. This often leads to people having a large amount of non-useful items in their home.

Something that may help you is to consider anything that does not have a clear purpose to be trash. Thus, if you do not have a specific use for an item and are saving it because you think it may be useful one day, go ahead and get rid of it.

Some common culprits that fit into the trash type of clutter include the following:

  • Expired foods or foods you don't like or intend to prepare anytime soon
  • Unopened or non-useful mail
  • Old magazines or newspapers
  • Expired medications or old medications

Basically, if you pick up an item and don't have a clear, actionable plan and purpose for it, it is time to discard it.

Freebies

Think about the last time you went to a street fair, a special event, or anything of the sort. Chances are that you stocked up on a lot of items, like free samples, cups, pens, hats, and t-shirts.

Ask yourself if you are really going to use these items again. The chances are a big, fat zero. For some reason, people love to collect free items, but these items rarely have a real purpose.

Thus, go ahead and get rid of all those freebies unless there is something you happen to really need, which is rare. And, in the future, make a concentrated effort to say no to free items that you don't really need. They simply add clutter and no real value to your life.

These are just a couple of types of clutter to rid your home of. Really, if you're honest with yourself, there is probably a lot more that you can get rid of. Just remember, getting rid of junk is ultimately freeing, even if it feels difficult at the time. Call a junk removal service to take away all of the things you decide you can get rid of to make it even easier.
