Whether you have an existing business next to the water or you are considering opening a brand-new one, you will want to take a few things into consideration before you start offering pontoon rentals. Here are a few of those things to get you started.
Think About The Training
You and your staff will need to be thoroughly trained in how to use a pontoon, how to maintain them, and how to address any issues should they arise. This means that you will have to go through some intense training. Also, you have to think about the customers that will want to rent the pontoons. Some may already have experience with them, while others may not. Therefore, you may have to be able to provide your customers with the training that they need in order to be safe out on the water once they take off with one of your pontoons. This may mean you will have to hire additional staff to cover the trainings.
The Higher Insurance
If you have an existing business, you already have business insurance. However, once you add pontoon rentals as one of the services that your business offers, you may find that your yearly insurance premium will increase. This is because of the dangers of being out on the water. The insurance company would be responsible for paying for personal injuries and for pontoon repairs should an accident happen. You just want to make sure that your business budget will allow for that type of insurance. You can call your insurance agent to discuss the numbers so that you can have a more accurate idea of how much it will cost.
You Need A Lot Of Equipment
You will need to buy more than just the pontoons. Make sure that you are buying everything you will need to repair, maintain, and clean the pontoons. You will need to provide plenty of life jackets too, as well as make sure that you have them in a variety of sizes. The more life jackets you have on hand, the better. This way, if one or two come up missing, you still have plenty on hand to give your customers when they take a pontoon out on the water.
After considering the previously mentioned points, and any others that you come across, you should have an easy time deciding if pontoon rentals are something that you want to offer. If it is, then you have a good idea of how to make it work without causing yourself a lot of financial distress.Share
